Da Nang has this funny reputation as the city people pass through on their way to Hoi An or Hue. We actually did the same thing when we first visited Vietnam 5 years ago, but this time, intentionally chose it as our base for 4 weeks. Because we stayed for longer than most people do, we wanted a nice combination of a beach and city life in one place. Da Nang is well known for this, but where you stay in Da Nang really does shape the whole trip.
This where to stay in Da Nang guide breaks the city down by neighborhood, tells you who each area actually suits, and gives you a realistic idea of price and stay length so you’re not stuck guessing.

How to use this guide
Before diving in, ask yourself a few quick questions:
- Are you here for the beach, the food scene, or both?
- Solo trip, couple’s getaway, or a longer remote-work stretch?
- Quick 2-night stopover or a proper 1–2 week stay?
Once you know what kind of trip this is, the right neighborhood becomes a lot more obvious.
My Khe Beach / An Thuong (Beach Area)
If you had to stereotype Da Nang, you would call out My Khe Beach. This is the area most travelers end up in, and honestly, it’s easy to see why. The beach is long, clean, and pretty. The water is swimmable, the sand is soft, and the whole area feels like a relaxed, modern beach town that just happens to sit next to a major Vietnamese city. The set up reminded us a bit of Alicante, with its city beach.
My Khe just ‘happens’. Mornings start with locals exercising on the sand while the temperature is still doable, and have disappeared by the time tourists set themselves up for the day. They know a thing or two about how to still live a life in the tropical heat! There are dozens of cute cafe’s to get filled up on caffeine or take your Instagram photos, and by the end of the afternoon the beach bars start coming to life.
Part of the reason My Khe is so appealing is how easy going it is. You don’t need a scooter and navigate chaotic traffic. You don’t need to “figure out” the city. Everything you want, food, beach, massages, rooftop bars, convenience stores, is within a few blocks. It’s the most walkable part of Da Nang, and that alone makes it perfect for first‑timers.
Trade-offs
- Pros: walkable to the beach, tons of good coffee shops, easy to find Western food if you need a break from rice and noodles
- Cons: can feel a bit disconnected from “real” Da Nang, gets busier every year, mosquitoes near sunset
Price reality:
- Budget: $15–$30 per night (hostels, basic guesthouses)
- Mid-range: $35–$70 per night
- Luxury: $100+ (beachfront resorts)
Best stay length: 3–7 nights

Són Trà Peninsula
This is where we lived for a month, and it’s the part of Da Nang we just loved The northern (city) part of Sơn Trà feels like a small coastal town tucked inside a big city. You’ll see fishermen pulling in nets at sunrise, families sitting outside their homes in the evenings, and the occasional monkey trying to steal someone’s bánh mì.
It’s peaceful in a way that My Khe is not. Not better, just different. The cafés are fewer and maybe a little less photogenic, but more local. The streets are quieter, and the proximity to nature is unbeatable. You can ride a scooter up the mountain and suddenly find yourself surrounded by jungle, viewpoints, and the famous Lady Buddha watching over the bay.
We loved taking evening strolls and would discover a new little business every walk that we hadn’t noticed before. Kids play outside and many of the food joints are just people’s homes.
But Sơn Trà isn’t for everyone. If you don’t ride a scooter, you’ll feel isolated. If you want nightlife, you won’t find it here. If you want a dozen cafés within a five‑minute walk, My Khe is better. It is perfect for long term travelers though, who want to feel a little less like a tourist and a little more like they could belong somewhere.
Trade-offs:
- Pros: peaceful, scenic, great for slow mornings and sunset views
- Cons: limited dining options nearby, you’ll want a scooter or rely on Grab for everything
Prices:
- Budget: $1–$20 per night (hostels, basic guesthouses)
- Mid-range: $35–$55 per night
- Luxury: Not many options, but the Intercontinental Da Nang is at the far end over the mountain
Best stay length: anything over 2 weeks

Da Nang city center
If My Khe is the polished, beach‑ready version of Da Nang, the city center is the raw, energetic, chaotic heart of it all. This is where you go when you want to eat like a local, shop like a local, and experience the city beyond the beach.
Staying in the city center means you’re surrounded by food. Not “Instagram brunch” food; real Vietnamese food. Bánh xèo sizzling on hot plates. Bowls of mì Quảng that cost less than a coffee and seafood restaurants where you pick your dinner from a tank. If you’re a foodie, this is paradise.
It’s also where you’ll find the Dragon Bridge, the Han River, museums, local bars, and some surprisingly nice hotels at very reasonable prices.
Trade-offs:
- Pros: central location, walkable nightlife, easy to grab a taxi or Grab anywhere
- Cons: traffic noise, beach is a short ride away rather than a walk, can feel more “city” than “vacation”
Prices:
- Budget: $18–$35
- Mid-range: $40–$80
- Luxury: $120+
Best stay length: 2–5 nights

Non Nuoc Beach
Non Nuoc is where Da Nang goes full luxury. This long, quiet stretch of coastline is lined with 5‑star resorts that feel like their own little worlds. If My Khe is a beach town, Non Nuoc is a beachfront escape.
The sand here is soft, wide, and almost empty compared to My Khe. The water is calm. The resorts are huge, with sprawling pools, private beach access, and enough restaurants and spas to keep you busy for days. It’s the kind of place where you check in, exhale, and forget the outside world exists.
This area is perfect for families who want safety and convenience, honeymooners who want privacy, and travelers who want a proper resort holiday without the chaos of the city.
Trade-offs:
- Pros: ultimate relaxation; you don’t have to leave your resort if you don’t want to. Closer to Hoi An.
- Cons: quite far from Da Nang city or the My Khe beach area, you will need Grab
Best stay length: 1–3 nights

Common Booking Mistakes in Da Nang
- Booking a “beachfront” stay that’s actually a 10-minute walk from the water. Always check the map, not just the listing photos
- Skipping AC reviews in summer; Da Nang gets hot and humid, and you will want reliable AC
- Not checking how far you are from the Dragon Bridge if you want to catch its weekend fire show
- Underestimating how spread out the city is, a scooter or consistent Grab budget makes a big difference
Where to Stay in Da Nang: Practical Tips
- Grab is cheap and reliable for getting between neighborhoods
- Renting a scooter opens up Son Tra Peninsula and the marble mountains much more easily
- Book beachfront stays early during peak season (Vietnamese summer, roughly June–August) since rates climb fast
- If you’re combining this with a Hoi An trip, Da Nang makes a far more practical home base than people expect; better airport access, lower prices, and you can day-trip the Ancient Town without paying Hoi An’s tourist markup
Pair this guide with a Hoi An day-trip plan or our broader Vietnam coverage to round out your trip. Wherever you land in Da Nang, you’re never more than a short ride from the beach, the river, or a really good bowl of mi quang.
