We’ve written extensively about how Koh Phangan is also suitable if you’re not looking to party, but the island is still famous for its Full Moon Party. You could attend a different party almost every night, but Koh Phangan is more than just nightlife. The island is split in vibe: the south is party-central, while the north offers yoga retreats, remote beaches, and slow island living.

Koh Tao → Best for Diving & Backpackers

As Thailand’s biggest island, Phuket offers a little bit of everything. You’ll find bustling nightlife in Patong, quieter beaches in the south, and plenty of day trips to nearby islands like Phi Phi. With direct international flights, it’s a very convenient option. Phuket has a reputation, but it is absolutely worth it still.

If you want something calm, Koh Lanta is the perfect choice. Long stretches of quiet beaches, family-run bungalows, and a relaxed vibe make it perfect for families or anyone wanting to escape the crowds. It’s quite large and nightlife is very low key, so where you stay can make a difference. We recommend the north west side.
Best for: Families, couples, slow travelers.

Koh Phi Phi → Best for Stunning Scenery
Made famous by The Beach, Koh Phi Phi is all about dramatic cliffs, turquoise water, and incredible boat trips. The main area can feel crowded and party-heavy, but nearby islands and beaches still capture that postcard-perfect paradise.

Koh Chang → Best for Adventure & Backpacking
Located in the east near Cambodia, Koh Chang is rugged, less developed, and full of jungle adventures. With waterfalls, jungle treks, and fewer crowds, it’s a great alternative to Thailand’s busier islands. Koh Chang was our very first ever Thai island, and we fell in love immediately!

Best for: Honeymooners, couples, off-the-beaten-path travelers
Highlights: Klong Chao waterfall, untouched beaches, fishing villages
🛏 Local stay: We stayed at Gumm Lonely Club and would go back always. Hammocks, cat Thaifun, homemade food and the greatest vibes.

Koh Kradan → Best for Castaway Vibes
Tiny Koh Kradan feels like a postcard come to life. Known for its powdery beaches and turquoise lagoon, it’s small, peaceful, and part of Hat Chao Mai National Park. Perfect for a short stop if you’re exploring the Trang Islands. We spent a week here and didn’t get bored. The island will force you to relax!
Best for: Beach lovers, honeymooners, off-the-grid travelers.

Koh Mak is a small, eco-conscious island located near Koh Chang and Koh Kood.
